Fair Winds Sailing Greece is located in Corfu Island which is considered one of the finest destinations in the Med. The town of Corfu has been characterized by the vast majority of visitors as cosmopolitan, picturesque and fascinating. Its old part is an UNESCO world heritage site with many historic monuments within stunning natural surroundings. The Old Fortress of Corfu is a masterpiece of architectural art, a jewel in the Ionian Sea.
Greece, Ionian Sea
The sea around Corfu is called “Ionian Sea” and separates the Greek and Italian mainlands. No other place in the world can offer the sailing options that the Ionian Sea offers. The west Greek mainland and the Ionian Islands form an extensive coastline that provides countless protected bays and beaches of rare beauty, ideal for swimming, snorkeling and scuba diving. During the sailing period, the north-west prevailing winds (maisto) in the Ionian Sea are by far gentler than the north east prevailing winds (meltemi) in the Aegean Sea.
Who we are
The founder and lead instructor of “Fair Winds Sailing – Greece” is Dimitris Bampakos, a former Captain of the Greek Navy and an American Sailing Association Instructor who has sailed more than 100,000 miles all over the world. When serving in Virginia, he cruised and raced in Chesapeake Bay, as well as, in the North Atlantic and the North Pacific Ocean becoming a proud member Patriot Sailing and BBSA. Since then he has taught sailing, seamanship and navigation providing ASA certifications.
Sailing Cruises
We plan our weekly cruises to combine recreation with training. We also plan to visit a different place every day, stopping for swimming in protected bays and beaches. Most evenings will be docked ashore, or day in anchor, around 7:00pm. Customized requests such as private cruises, couple courses and luxury yacht sailing can be arranged.
