Sailing Says Thanks

Overview
As sailors, we are taught to be prepared and help others in need. Our very nature is to not only be self-reliant but to reach out and help other boats in times of crisis. Many in our sailing community have reached out to the ASA wanting to contribute somehow to those guiding us through this international pandemic. Many essential workers are working countless hours and endangering their lives so that the remaining part of society can stay safe.

It is time the sailing community reaches out and offers help to the Covid-19 Essential workers.

The ASA and Spinnaker Sailing (San Francisco, spinnaker-sailing.com) are starting an initiative called #SailingSaysThanks which we hope is embraced by any sailing entity that can donate their time and/or boats.
Our Goal
Give essential employees a break from COVID-19 work by donating a sailing experience.

How does this work?
  • Decide what your sailing experience will look like

For example, knowing you want to offer a 45-minute sail around the bay with 4 passengers and 2 crew will help you know what resources you will need to schedule.

  • Determine your method of finding essential workers

See our “Ideas” section below to find different options.

  • Spread the word and book appointments.

  • Take photos and share on social channels with hashtag #SailingSaysThanks

  • Send photos to zeke@asa.com so we can feature you!

We’ll be putting the photos you send in the American Sailing Journal and upcoming news articles covering the initiative!

Different Sailing Experience Ideas

  • Follow up via phone call or email to retrieve those who signed up.
