North U Block Island Race Week Clinic

Join us for a 1-day on-the-water practice and clinic with an emphasis on starts!
To win a regatta you must consistently have good starts. This clinic will teach you how to avoid crowds and get off the line in the front row so that you can hold your lane, sail fast, and be in a position to win.
The starting clinic proved to be a valuable learning experience for all.
Bill Kneller, J/109 Class President

North U has been turning sailors into racers and racers into winners since 1980. Whatever your level, we can raise your game. The start of a sailboat race is the most exciting moment in all of sports. As fun and exciting as a regular fleet start can be, a big fleet start adds extra challenges.

The Clinic

The day starts with a morning pre-brief including a discussion of big fleet starting and racing tips and techniques.

The afternoon session takes place on the water and the team of coaches will be sharing feedback via VHF. The race committee will run practice starts rolling into race starts followed by a short (~20 minute) windward-leeward race. After each race you’ll get a short break… and we’ll do it again.

The clinic concludes back onshore with an extensive video debrief of all the practice starts. Coaches will be on-hand to provide observations and answer questions.
