Celebrating the Sailors of American Sailing in Twelve Fair Winds Photos

By: American Sailing, Fair Winds

A few weeks ago we asked you to send in your sailing photos for our Fair Winds feature. The response was overwhelming — so many we haven’t even gotten to review them all! In one beautiful weekend we saw hundreds of you living the sailing life, so we’re featuring the top 12 today from what we’ve seen so far! We look forward to seeing these photos continue to come in, and featuring even more of what’s already been sent in over the next several months.

Congrats to these winners — we’ll be reaching out to send you Fair Winds hats!

This image was taken on Flathead Lake, Montana.  We were waiting for the evening thermals to start our Friday evening races.  I loved how the purple color was reflecting off the mountains onto the water as the sun was getting lower in the horizon and I snapped a photo with my cell phone camera before the race started.  We participate in the race program at our yacht club, North Flathead Yacht Club (NFYC)  The photo was taken from our boat, a J24.  The boat in the image is a Catalina 27.

The photo was taken on 9/11 on Lake Wallenpaupack in Pennsylvania. The boats are Oday 26’s and a Catalina 27 and members of the Paupack Sailing Club who regularly fly the flags on holidays to the delight of the local boaters.

This is me on a passage from Madeira to Vigo Spain on a Rubicon Adventures 60 foot clipper this February.  We had just endured 48 hours in force 7 and the sky started to clear enough to get some sights.

This photo was taken during my first sailing course that I recently took in Spain. We had pretty spectacular weather until one morning, we woke up to 40 knot winds blowing everything off our boat and sending everything flying within the cabin. We managed to survive the storm and were rewarded with some of these breathtaking clouds as the storm rolled beyond us during the sunset. We were sailing a 38 foot sailboat.
