The ASA is proud to support the efforts of Hands Across the Sea, and helping Tom and Harriet Linskey in their effort to bring literacy to the Eastern Caribbean. It is a worthy cause; keep up the great work!
In its fourth running, the annual Caribbean Getaway Sweepstakes raised a record high of $27,000 for Hands Across the Sea, a Massachusetts-based 501 (c)(3) nonprofit charity dedicated to raising the literacy levels of Caribbean kids in pre-school, primary school, and high school. ASA sailors alone raised 23% more money than last year — an awesome job! Even if you missed the sweepstakes you can still donate.
The 2015 Winners
First Prize – Scott Crislip, an Ohio native who is taking steps to turn his bluewater cruising dream into reality and is one of the most enthusiastic novice sailors you’ll ever meet, is “very excited to be introduced to the Caribbean”. As the winner of First Prize, Scott won a catamaran charter in sunny Grenada courtesy of Sunsail, and will receive ASA-certified instruction courtesy of LTD “Live the Dream!” Sailing during his one-week charter.
Second Prize – Kathleen Haigood, an ASA-certified sailor from San Francisco, won Second Prize, a one-week, two-room vacation at the luxurious, all-inclusive Verandah Resort & Spa on Antigua, where she plans to be “on the beach and in the water” every day, all day with her family.
