ASA Med Sailing - Greece Flotilla

Island of Kefalonia, Fiskardo, Dragorati Cave and more...
If you ever wanted to sail the Ionian Sea and the waters where Homer’s heroes sailed in ancient times, then this flotilla is for you.
The Ionian Sea is located on the west side of Greece and south of the Adriatic Sea.
We offer you a flotilla with a wonderful combination of sailing fun and fellowship, mythical legends and ancient history, legendary Greek hospitality, and gastronomy.
If you have already sailed with us in places like Croatia, Turkey, Italy, Spain and the Seychelles, you know this will be an exciting adventure.
We already have four boats filled with participants and, if you want to join us, don’t procrastinate or you may be out of luck.
We recommend that you arrive on Thursday in Lefkas so you can get a bit over the jetlag on Friday and get in the vacation mode. We will have a get-together on Friday with a welcome cocktail and, for those who want to join us, dinner in one of the local restaurants.
Join us on a tour of the British Virgin Islands...
...not as a tourist, but as an exclusive guest onboard a mega yacht!
This winter, Arabella visits the British Virgin Islands. The BVI's are on the bucket list of every sailor and you have the opportunity to tour them on a mega-sailing yacht.
  • Arabella Testimonial Marge

“Steering a 157 foot schooner under full canvas in 20-25 plus winds was exciting, with the wind tearing at my hair. With beautiful blue skies and turquoise seas in 80 degrees, what could be better?”

    Marge Benning, Denver CO

  • Arabella Testimonial Tracy Kosbau

“Everything is taken care of. You don’t have to worry about anything. You just sit back and enjoy the beautiful scenery, fresh sea air and fantastic ports of call to explore. In a very short time, we all got to know each other and everyone felt like family to me. I learned a lot, and enjoyed sharing this brief moment in time and space on this lovely boat called the Arabella.”

    Tracy Kosbau

  • Arabella Testimonial Tim Shuman

“What do a film producer, a tech consultant, a dad and his son have in common with a group of Puritans? They all boarded a boat named Arabella bound for Massachusetts, albeit 385 years apart. Unlike John Winthrop and crew the modern passengers sailed in comfort on an ASA sponsored voyage to Martha’s Vinyard, Nantucket and Cuttyhunk islands!”

    Tim Shuman

  • Arabella Testimonial Fred Wyckoff and Gerri Haan

“Absolutely no better way to relax… A full day of sailing aboard the “melts my heart” Arabella, lobster for dinner and slow trip back to the schooner during golden hour. Fantastic!”

    Fred Wyckoff and Gerri Haan

Everyone deserves this type of mega yacht sailing experience at some point in their lives, but few can afford it until now. ASA is giving you an opportunity to join us on this unique, and unforgettable, sailing vacation.

ASA Med Sailing – Greece Flotilla

The planned itineraries for the trips are essentially the same. Remember, all stops are subject to the captain’s discretion and may vary due to weather or unforeseen circumstances.

Day 1 (Arrival Day): Saturday

Meet at the marina in Vathi

After a lazy morning, “Admiral” Mila will lead the provisioning party and raid the local market and grocery stores. As we are in Greece, we want, of course, to enjoy as much Greek cuisine as possible and our provisions will be mainly limited to breakfast and lunch items and, of course, good Greek wines and Ouzo.
After our check-in of the yachts and chart orientations, we should be able to drop the lines and leave the marina around 17:00 for our first night on Meganisi Island, where we will dock in Vathi and enjoy a great dinner at one of the eateries close to the marina.

Day 2: Sunday

Sail to The Island of Kefalonia

After breakfast, we sail to the island of Kefalonia and, before leaving, Meganisi, we can go for a swim in the bay of Atherinos or Abelaki and, from there, we
point our bows towards the charming village of Fiskardo on the island of Kefalonia.
On the way, we will drop our anchor at the island of Atokos. You are in for a treat. Swim and snorkel at the foot of the impressive cliffs or walk the beach. It is privately owned but we are allowed to go to the shore and explore this wild and cavernous island. From Atokos, it is only a short 10NM or so to Fiskardo where we will dock for the night and have dinner on shore.

Day 3: Monday

We head south from Fiskardo, sailing through the channel between Kefalonia and Ithaka towards the port of Sami, about 12NM.
We will spend the night here, but we have a land tour planned as well. When the Greek god Pan rejected the love of the nymph Melissani, she jumped to her death in a cave on this island and we want to visit this geological wonder which is located on the outskirts of the village.
If we get to Sami early enough to visit the lake and the cave, we will do it on Monday. If we are too late, we will postpone it until Tuesday morning.
 Dinner on shore.

Day 4: Tuesday

Dragorati Cave

If there is enough interest, and if we have had the opportunity to visit the Melissani cave on Monday, we can also check out the Dragorati cave, 5 Km south of Sami. This is a totally different cave with spectacular stalagmite and stalactite formations.

Across from Sami is the island of Ithaka, mythical home of Odysseus, and our next overnighting stop will be the main port of the island, Vathi, with its many typical Greek fish restaurants.

But, before we end the day at the dock there, we will go for our daily swimming and snorkeling at the scenic Gidaki beach.

Day 5: Wednesday

Island of Kalamos

After a relax breakfast on our boat or in a local taverna, we leave Vathi for the island of Kalamos where, in the port of the same name, George will be waiting for us to help us secure our boats before having dinner at his restaurant.

On the way to Kalamos, we will drop the hook near the tiny island of Formikoula for some swimming.

Day 6: Thursday

Papanikolis’ Cave

Our main attraction of the day will be Papanikolis’ Cave on the southside of Meganisi Island.

It is a beautiful anchorage with a huge cave entrance that is rumored to have been the hiding place of a submarine. On the way there we will pass Papageorge’s Cove, another great swimming hole.

Our stop for the night will be the small fishing village of Sivota on Lefkas Island, where (again) we will have a delicious Greek dinner.

Day 7: Friday

Return to Lefkas

That’s all Folks! Our last day and we must return to our base in Lefkas.

But, on the way, we will have more opportunities for sailing and swimming. Why not stop at Skorpios Island, the home of the late Onassis?

Let’s have our last lunch on board while enjoying the view.

Then, it is the final leg to the base. You can stay on board for the night and disembark by 09:00 on Saturday or go to a hotel for a real shower and a real bed.
