ASA Dubrovnik – Montenegro Flotilla

Dubrovnik, Herceg Novi, Blue cave Montenegro and more...

Explore Montenegro with us! This Balkan country has not yet been overrun by American sailors and we were one of the first flotillas to offer a cross-border from Croatia.

Plenty of exciting experiences await you in Montenegro. Swim in a blue cave, anchor out for the night in the quiet anchorage of Bigova and enjoy a delicious dinner ashore. Visit the most luxurious yacht marina in the Mediterranean at Porto Montenegro, discover the Perast islands with its historic church of St. Mary of the Rocks and spend the night in the medieval city of Kotor. Climb up the mountain to its St John Fortress. A spectacular panorama rewards the efforts of the adventurous hiker. During our sailing trip, you will see brand new marinas, medieval monasteries and abandoned Cold War military installations.

Book early as this will fill up fast We recommend that you arrive on Thursday, September 1, in Dubrovnik and visit the Old Town on Friday. It is worth it!

ASA Dubrovnik – Montenegro Flotilla

The planned itineraries for the trips are essentially the same. Remember, all stops are subject to the captain’s discretion and may vary due to weather or unforeseen circumstances.

Day 1 (Arrival Day): Saturday, Sep. 3rd

Meet at the ACI Komolac Dubrovnik

Meeting in the morning at the ACI Marina in Komolac, near Dubrovnik.
We will have lunch at the marina and then go for our provisioning.
Check-in on the yachts in the afternoon and estimated departure time of 17:00 hours. We sail to the small but charming port of Cavtat, where we will spend the night and go for dinner.

Day 2: Sunday, Sep. 4th

Herceg Novi

We clear out of Croatia with Customs in Cavtat and head out, along the coast, to Montenegro where we clear Montenegrin Customs in Zelenika followed by a very short trip to the luxurious and modern Marina Lazur, where we will spend the night. Opportunity to visit nearby Herceg Novi. We recommend having dinner in the excellent restaurant of the marina.

Day 3: Monday, Sep. 5th

Blue cave Montenegro

We leave the Bay of Kotor and head for the anchorage of Bigova, where we will take a buoy and have a dinner ashore. On the way, we will have plenty of time for a swim in the nearby blue cave of Karaodzinica.

Day 4: Tuesday, Sep. 6th

Bay of Kotor

We sail back into the Bay of Kotor with a stop in Mirista Bay, for a swim near the island of Otocic Gospa with its small but beautiful Orthodox monastery.
Hike up to Mirista Point with its medieval Arza Fortress and find some wild garlic that grows there.
From there, off we go to Porto Montenegro, the largest and most luxurious mega yacht marina in the Mediterranean.
We will have dinner in one of the local restaurants and have the opportunity to visit the luxury boutiques or the Maritime Heritage Museum with its submarine.

Day 5: Wednesday, Sep. 7th

We leave early and make our way to the narrow passage between Sveta Nedjelja and Opatovo points. Watch out for the ferries!
Once past this channel, you will see the Perast Islands.
There are two of them. One, Otok Sveti Jura, is a natural island and off limits to visitors. The locals say it is haunted. The other one, Gospa od Skrpjela, is an artificial island with a beautiful Byzantine looking Catholic church and museum, which you will be able to visit.
From Perast, we sail all the way to the end of the Bay of Kotor to the medieval city bearing the same name. Kotor is the city of cats, and you will see lots of them.
We spend the night at the municipal marina, and you will have the opportunity to visit the city and hike to the St. John Fortress, 919 Ft above the city. You will be rewarded with an exceptional view and will have earned your dinner at our favorite restaurant, the Galion.

Day 6: Thursday, Sep. 8th

Porto Montenegro

This will be a long day back to Cavtat in Croatia.
After checking out of Montenegro with Customs, either in Porto Montenegro or in Zellenika, we sail back to Cavtat in Croatia.
Depending on the weather and sea conditions, we may clear that same night into Croatia or will have to wait on board, with our yellow Q flag up, until Friday morning. If we clear on Thursday, we can have dinner ashore. If not, we will have dinner on the yachts.

Day 7: Friday, Sep. 9th

Return to Dubrovnik

The Old Town of Dubrovnik seen from the sea is impressive and we will have ample opportunity to take pictures on our way back to the marina, up the river, in Komolac.
After refueling and docking, we check-out of the yachts but can spend the last night on board and enjoy the restaurants in or around the marina. This ACI marina has great facilities and a large pool by the bar. A nice way to end this trip.
