A flotilla is a fleet of sailboats where each boat has been chartered by a qualified sailor or, in some cases, chartered by a paid licensed captain. The flotilla includes a leader who knows the local area well and offers guidance and support to all the boats in the flotilla.

A learn-to-sail vacation involves one or more boats, each of which has a qualified American Sailing Instructor onboard. A significant part of the vacation is spent learning with the goal of meeting or exceeding the requirements to be awarded one or more American Sailing Certifications.
