Pine Island Sound Flotilla 2009

ASA Pine Island Sound Flotilla a pirate success story!

Eight boats converged at Burnt Store Marina for a week of sailing, sun and pirate adventures.  The flotilla started with a Welcome Party at an outdoor Tiki Hut with live music and fresh local seafood.  Vinnie Mischitelli played his saxophone as the guests arrived.  They were treated to fresh local stone crab claws, gulf shrimp, BBQ sausage, wine, beer and the festivities began!  ASA Instructors Jean Levine and Jeff Grossman did an outstanding job as Flotilla Leaders and organized pirate treasure hunts throughout the week, culminating with one boat winning the coveted “Dread Pirates” award.  Other highlights included a stop at Useppa Island with group dinner ashore.  Useppa Island is a private community only accessible by boat.  Most nights were spent at anchor, but the group did have slips at Tween Marina, where they had use of the swimming pool and amenities.  The beautiful white sand beaches are among the best in this area.  Shells, birds and dolphins made it a beautiful setting.

“I would like to thank you for a wonderful week of sailing with the ASA Pine Island Sound Flotilla. I can honestly say that not only was it the best sailing I've ever had, it was also the greatest adventure and vacation of my life. The positives are too numerous to mention.”
